how do you add and subtract fractions???????????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you have to find a common denominator between the two fractions you are adding or subtracting

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a/b + c/d = (ad+cb)/bd

OpenStudy (anonymous):

uuuhhhh??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pick some random single digit numbers for a b c d, write the equation, start calculating it, spot the pattern, repeat, own it

Give us an example to work with, it would be better to explain

Go back to Grade 5 ?

11/28 + 13/24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

for example, say you want to add 2/3 + 1/2 you have to find a number that can be divided by both 3 and 2 an easy way to find this is to multiply them together so 3x2=6 there is your common demoninator but you have to multiply the numerators too so we multiplied 3x2 to get 6 so we have to multiply 2x2 so the first fraction is 4/6 then we multiplied 2x3 to get 6 so we have tomultiply 1x3 too so the second fraction is 3/6 so we have 4/6+3/6 add the numerators and get 7/6
