Express the area of each figure as a monomial. How would I solve 7x^4 if the formula is s^2 Steps on how you got the answer are appreciated, it'll help me on my test. Thanks.

myininaya (myininaya):

are you saying we have a square and each side has length 7x^4?

myininaya (myininaya):

if so then you do \[(7x^4)^2=7^2x^{4 \cdot 2}\]

myininaya (myininaya):

\[=49x^8\]

not sure if the fact that it's a circle and not a square would affect the outcome of the answer..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do you mean by "each figure"? the circle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, you want the area of the circle in terms of x?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Honestly, I have no idea what this question is asking me to do.. It just tells me to express the area of the figure as a monomial.

myininaya (myininaya):

but the figure they give you is a circle right?

myininaya (myininaya):

\[A=\pi r^2=\pi (7x^4)^2\]

myininaya (myininaya):

area of a circle is pi times radius squared

myininaya (myininaya):

the radius in the circle you drew above is 7x^4

myininaya (myininaya):

so i replaced r with 7x^4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you beat me to it myin

myininaya (myininaya):

\[A=\pi(7^2 \cdot x^{4 \cdot 2})\] :)

myininaya (myininaya):

\[A=49x^8 \pi\]

myininaya (myininaya):

since 7^2=49 and x^(4 times 2)=x^8

Thank you :)
