OpenStudy (unicorn):

what do you understand by term charging and discharging of a battery ?does that means battery a store house of charge that supply charge to the circuit ???????? if charging and discharging an appropriate term to be used????????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Those terms are not really accurate in the context of a battery. A battery contains some mechanism (typically chemical) that creates a potential difference between the positive and negative terminals. When connected in a circuit, this potential difference drives the flow of charge but the battery itself does not carry any excess charge. In the case of a chemical battery, the reactants that interact with each other to produce the potential difference are eventually used up, at which time we say the battery is dead.
