oh im sorry this is the real one : Which of the following is an equivalent form of the compound inequality -44 > -2x - 8 ≥ -8?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

multiple choice question? There is more than one answer? A, B, C or D?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes just a sec

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2x - 8 < -44 and -2x - 8 ≥ -8 -2x - 8 > -44 and -2x - 8 ≥ -8 -2x - 8 < -44 and -2x - 8 ≥-8 -2x > -44 and -8 ≥ -8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

there is a mistake in your question ... You have written -44 > -2x - 8 ≥ -8 which means -44 > -8 or -44 is bigger than -8; thus, the answer would be none of the above. Are the signs supposed to go the other way? -44 < -2x - 8 < -8??

@meverette i have seen these before, maybe this exact one, and it drive me nuts. i am wondering if the text and or teachers are so bad that they actually think this means something

OpenStudy (anonymous):

like saying "solve for x" \[3=2x+1=5\]

@satellite .... maybe .... I think students are finding openstudy.com, sharing with their classmates and then if there is a typo we see it over and over again. I find that one day I answer a question and then the next day I answer the same question again, Usually 3-4 times a week.
