Explain 2 reasons why we declared independence from britian ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A series of taxes and other measures were imposed on the colonies following the French and Indian War, in part to pay for the cost of defending the colonies. This was simply done without consulting them especially since the colonies had no representation in the Parliament of Great Britain ("Taxation without representation"). To further demonstrate royal rule over the colonies, armed soldiers and royal officials were then sent over to the colonies to further deepen the ties between them and the Crown, infuriating the colonists who were beginning the process of establishing their own local form of governance. The heavy handed and callous approach of the Crown to its control over the colonies in this fashion would eventually spark the American Revolution.

Capt. Turner has it nailed from the British side - especially the control factor. I'd add that the colonists also declared independence because they wanted control over their own destinies.
