divide everything by 5x when you divide you subtract the exponents so x3 becomes x2 because 5x has one exponent \[5x ^{3} / 5x ^{1} = 5 x^{2}\]

im sorry its x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so you divide 5 by the coefficient and subtract the exponents
