The relative maximum of f(x)=50x/x^2+3 PLEASE EXPLAIN

OpenStudy (amistre64):

whats the first derivative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk :(

OpenStudy (amistre64):

then finding any maximums is gonna be tricky .....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

this calculus?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (amistre64):

and youve gone over the derivative rules?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=+f%28x%29%3D50x%2F%28x%5E2%2B3%29 it says max is at x = sqrt(3)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the explanation goes: where the first derivative is zero you have a min or a max; so test out the points. but if you dont know the derivatives thats a little beyond the scope of this environment

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think i'm understanding. thank you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good luck :)
