I need to perform the indicated operations, but when I try to do this, it gets all messed up. Can anyone explain how they go about getting the correct answer for this? 2 2/5 * 3 1/2 - 4/5 = ? My college mathbook doesn't explain much.

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

((2 2/5) * (3 1/2)) - (4 / 5) = 7.6

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

is it correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I didn't think it would be a decimal. I assume it would be an even number at the end.

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

is it 22/5 or 2 2/5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

two and two fifths

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

ok

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

7.6 is correct....

I was trying to go about it as 10/5 * 7/2 - 4/5, but I don't know if thats the right way. Thats when you'd find the least common denominator of all three, but i don't seem to be able to find one that isn't overly high.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh okay :) then i guess i was right. thank you!

OpenStudy (vishal_kothari):

welcome...
