1.5|3p|=4.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You mean 1.5 * 3p = 4.5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

umm i think, but with the absolute bars around the 3p

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This means that whatever is inside of the absolute value will always be positive. 1.5|3p|=4.5 1.) The first step is to divide by 1.5 |3p| = 4.5/1.5 |3p| = 3 2.) The second step is to figure out what the absolute value is. What value for p would equal 3? We have to remember that the variable p can be negative or positive. You can divide by 3 to figure out what pthe variable p could be. The first answer is p = 1. |3*1| = 3 The second part of this question is to figure out a negative value for p. Since the variable is in absolute bars, wouldn't |3*-1| work too? |3*-1| is equivalent to |-3| since everything in absolute brackets becomes positive, 3 = 3 (Anything in absolute value bars will always be positive. ex: |-3| = 3 or |5-10| = 5 In the latter example, 5-10 = -5 so the question is |-5|= p --> 5=p) I hope this helps and is not confusing!!
