Why is the rainbow round?

OpenStudy (jamesj):

It's a bit complicated, but not that bad. Have a look at this ... start about 3 minutes in and skip the intro. http://collegerama.tudelft.nl/mediasite/SilverlightPlayer/Default.aspx?peid=9bee2ac3d4014deba0a96e4301b9c9351d

The video is the long answer and is worth watching. The short answer is rainbows are the result of the internal reflection of light in water droplets. If you draw the path of how light reflected in water droplets reaches your eye to form a rainbow, the only way that can happen is if the rainbow is round.
