Mmm.... no. My professor says it is 2^3. I see that it's 2^3 but I need to know why now.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2^12/8^3 =2^12/8^3=2^12/(2*2*2)^3=2^12/(2^3)^3=2^12/(2)^9=2^(12-9)=2^3=8 ans

mark o has explained it pretty well. Remember the rule:\[\Large \frac{{{x^n}}}{{{x^m}}} = {x^{n - m}}\]If the numerator and denominator are not equal but are constant, try and factorise them to turn the quotient into something common (as mark o has demonstrated) and apply the rule.
