Find the Equation of the Line that has the same y-intercept as y=-3x+4 and same x intercept as 4x-8y=20 Please guide me through this question
Hello Mr.GT, Nice to see you =)
Have exams tommorow
First equation y-intercept is 4 (where x =0). Second equation x-intercept is 5 (where y = 0) So, the points this new line passes through are (0,4) and (5,0). Now, find the equation of this line as you would find for any two points.
I see
So it's a straight line?
Horizontal or vertical
Yes. |dw:1327605083893:dw|
Always best to mark the points in a coordinate plane and connect to get a visual sense of the line and its direction.
The slope is 4/5 but is the x intercept also 5, making the equation y=4/5x + 5
But according to the answers, this is wrong?
Welll....slope is -4/5. You should use "y intercept" not "x intercept" for the constant.
