figure out X in this question using elimination... 7x+5y=19 -7x-2y=-16

Directrix (directrix):

x = 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but how do you get -4y to equal to +5y evenly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[(7x + 5y = 19)2\] \[(-7x - 2y = -16)5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x will be eliminated, but you can still solve for it by working with y first. adding the two expressions, you get 3y = 3, so y = 1. when y=1, you'll find that x=2 upon substituting to one of the expressions
