no I just know we did basically by long division. which is (division, multiplication,subtraction,bring down the next number or term, and repeat.)

Ok. Then divide the volume by x-1 and then divide that answer by x+8 and that will be the length. Or you could multiply (x-1)(x+8) and then divide the volume by that answer.
