From the second equation, y = 2x+2 Replace y in the first equation with 2x+2

4x+3y=16 -2x+y=2 multiply by 2 4x+3y=16 -4x+2y=4 ------------ assum 0 5y=20 so y=20/5 =4 y=4 -2x+y=2 -2x-4=2 -2x=6 x=6/(-2) = -3 x=-3 y=4
