Is it possible to write large and good C++ or Python programs without using any try{} catch{} blocks?

absolutely but you would have no error handling which is almost always a bad idea unless maybe you trying to rapidly build a prototype but even then it might slow you down because you have nothing reporting errors from print/echo/debugger depending on your lanugage of choice. try and catch can continue the program even if that block of code errors. handy stuff in my opnion.
