I think MINIX is what you're looking for, especially since it's usually included as part of Dr. Tanenbaum's book http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004S81RUC/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_1/184-3489099-2998357?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=lpo-top-stripe-1&pf_rd_r=1F5XJJ5FVMK90HKCYHPQ&pf_rd_t=201&pf_rd_p=486539851&pf_rd_i=0136386776 the cover may seem ridiculous, but the book and the OS is great for educational purposes
@agdgdgdgwngo is this book about MINIX a course in operating system or should i revise my course of operating system before reading it ??
Linux projects usually have great documentation and there are 'small' OSs. Puppy is small in size, easy to install and there is a place to start reading http://puppylinux.org/main/Overview%20and%20Getting%20Started.htm
