Just imagine that this is a right triangle where d is the altitude. Find the values of a, b, c, d. About the Right Triangle Similarity.... |\ Given: a+b = 18 | \ a | \ | /\ 6| / \ | /d \ b | / \ | / \ |/_________\ c Please help me... Thanks

First, you know how to figure out c right? Just use the Pythagorean theorem: a^2+b^2=c^2 6^2+b^2=18^2 b^2=288 b=16.97 (approximately)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nope, i dont know, i'm new to this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay, that's good too XD do you understand the Pythagorean theorem now? If not, look at this: http://www.mathsisfun.com/pythagoras.html

OpenStudy (hoblos):

@14yamaka where did you get a^2+b^2=c^2 from?!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...? are you pulling my leg hoblos?? :P or for real?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you following Jenuine? XD

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah, i got the pythagorean theoren but i still dont know how to find the other variables

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, so now the proof of triangular similarity we have to know that before going on

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know what makes two triangles similar?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the angles in two triangles are the same, they are similar.

It is generally frowned upon to repost the same question when it has already been answered once. If you delete this post and go back to the first one, I will help you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?? 0.0 sry Mertsj, didn't know this was already posted :(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Should I continue with this explanation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh....make sure you don't do this again okay? X( I know you meant no harm, but it can cause bad feelings so...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sure.. ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, so you got that triangles are similar if their angles are the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Proof for triangle similarity: angle XYZ and angle YWZ are both right angles angle Z is shared so both triangles have this angle. If two of the angles are the same, the remaining angle is also the same. Since all three of the angles are the same, the triangles are similar.

ok
