I dont understand how to remove the parentheses and simplify for the following problem 9x-(7-3x) Can someone help me ?
You distribute : 9x-7+3x And then simplify..
Do you know how to distribute ?
Okay so it would be 63x+27x is that all
No. How did you get that ?
I distributed and multiplied can you help me solve it
Okay :)
Oh wait. You distributed the 9 as well ?
yes the 9 to the 7 and the 9 to the 3
I did that and thats what i came up with
That's wrong. Because you only have a negative before the brackets but if it was like this : -9x(7-3x) The yeah you MUST distribute the 9. But your question is like this : 9x-(7-3x) So you will only distribute the negative. => 9x-7+3x ( and don't forget: negative * negative = positive ) And when you simplify it all you have to do is COMBINE LIKE TERMS!! => 12x-7
Get it ?
So i just remove them by combine the subtraction sign in the problem
I have another question
Okay, what is it ?
Its just like the last one but im still a lil confused -6(3r+8)+9(7r+3)
What's confusing you ?
I keep wanting to multiply would it be 18r-48+63r-27 combine like terms then simplify
Yessss! That's absolutely correct :D
Can you simplify it ?
is it 45r-27 ???
No, combine like terms : (18r+63r) + (-48-27 ) Now do it from here :)
is it 45r-27
no
(18r+63r) + (-48-27 )
and solve it :)
I dont understand still
You have to combine like terms right ? 18r and 63r are like terms ^ Add them => 81r And -48 and -27 are like terms ^ Add them => -75 So, what will you get ? 81r-75 Do you get it ? :D
