A boy flying a kite has released 250 ft of string. If he ties the string to a stake in the ground and measure the angle of elevation to be 53 degrees, how high is the kite?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You construct a triangle with a hypotenuse of 250 and you know that sin(53) = opposite side/hypotenuse and the opposite side happens to be the elevation, so x~199.659

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay I understand how you got that but where do we put the 53 degrees?

OpenStudy (cwrw238):

sin 53 = x / 250 where x is the elevation so x = 250 * sin 53 = 199.659

Okay thank you now how would i draw the triangle? like this?
