3x/4+2/5=53/20

we want to isolate x so we get rid of the + 2/5 on that side by subtracting it from both sides to keep the equation equal. That means 3x/4 = 53/20-2/5 which is 3x/4 = 45/20. Then divide by 3/4 because that is the coefficient of x (basically means the number right next to it). Since we did it on one side we have to do it to the other side to keep the equation equal. 45/20 divide by 3/4 = 3. So x = 3

you could also, multiply by the LCD with is 20 and it would remove the fractions and make it an easier equation to work with.
