The roots of algebra came from the ancient Babylonians, but the word itself came from the Arabic word "Al-Jabr" from a book written by the Persian, Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. His work, and the book, are considered by many to be incredibly important contributions to the basis of algebra today.
