can someone help me out?! What does this exactly mean; So the committed themselves to the will of god and resolved to proceed. Is it saying no matter what rough times ahead they still had their faith? Or am i totally off?

OpenStudy (lexis):

i think that your basically right. it sounds like when all else was lost, they turned to the last thing they had hope in - faith.

I take it as meaning that their faith shored them up, helped give them the courage to go on, no matter what the outcome. (The outcome being, in this ideology, in God's hands.) But, as always, context is all. This is one sentence lifted completely out of context. How you would interpret it exactly has to do with the rest of the passage in which it appears.
