Solve the system by using elimination or elimination with multiplication. 3x - 2y = 9 and -3x + 2y = -9 A. (3, 0) B. (5, 6) C. (1, -3) D. no solution E. infinitely many solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's A or E.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it is D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A and C works =0, so wouldnt it be many solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i thought so but then I looked up the definition of infinitely many solutions and it said that it meant tht u can never run out of possible solutions..so then I had second thoughts.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sorry how does C work, I think it is just A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

D is not right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol, i think i am confusing you, yes C does work

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea u r kind of confusing me..u just named three answers. :) lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is tree lee, mmm im lost now lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahahaahha, am sorry. :D well when i trying susbtitution, I got the answer 3,0 i dont know how u can, get 1,-3, but when u plug it in then it is a solution. so i think is it infinite solutions.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i solved for x, and plug it into other equations- i got 0.. so no solution =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I definitely know tht no solution is wrong but I think it is infinitely solution...So we r going to go with E.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i have a graphing calculator, i will solve the problem now. wait

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i had calculation wrong, i change my answer to infinity lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol iHelp

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So is it D Luis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4.5,6) is another solution =0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

we just have to wait for Sal to c if we r right.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok it is E, system has infinite solutions, becuase in fact the two lines are the same, if you try and isolate for y, in both cases you will get the same line y=(-9+3x)/2. Hence, the two lines are on top of each other and they interesct at infinite points, this is how you have infinit solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

clear?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea i get now..thts wat I thought it was..but thnk u for checking.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

same line?,, one has negative slope, and the other is positive....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

let me check one more time

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no, they are the same line. Try to isolate for y for both lines

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea they r the same line...he's right and so am I so we r going with E.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sry but i still dont get same line >.<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol, the signs are confusing. i was checking like 3 times. try and get y on its own and everything to the right side.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by graphing wat i got for those equations... i got (3,0) as solutions now--- btw, u just solve for y in those 2 equation right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm 4th check, i got same line-- blame the SIGNs-- thanks

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha np :P
