For that u have to convert the numbers to either one form.

Like,

( 1.35 X 10^5)-(1.17 X 10^4)
(13.5 x 10^4) - (1.17 x 10^4)

Now u can see that both terms have same value (10^4) so we can subtract now,

(13.5 - 1.17) x 10^4
12.33 x 10^4

Now convert this back to scientific form,
1.233 x 10^5
