How many solutions does this system of equations have? 5x-4y=11 4y=5x-9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use the substitution method

OpenStudy (anonymous):

or check the slopes to see if they're the same

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

first equation\[5x-4y=11\]\[4y=5x-11\]\[y=5/4x-11/4\] second equation \[4y=5x-9\]\[y=5/4x=9/4\] looking at the general forms of these equations we can see that they have the same slope and different intercepts, this means the lines are parallel and thus there is no solution

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

*\[y=5/4x-9/4\]

oh okay. I think i understand this a little bit better now. Thanks so all! God bless!
