How many solutions does this system of equations have? 2x-2y=8 2x+3y=3

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Well, the slopes are not the same so they are not parallel.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The equations are not the same equation so they are not the same line. Therefore they intersect and have one solution.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay. I got that. How do i solve it though???

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they are linear so they cross once, one solution

OpenStudy (anonymous):

..I see.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

substitution method get a variable by itself on one side of one equation then plug the left side in for that variable in the other

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Good for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

equation

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Hint: subtract one equation from the other and you get y=-1 right away.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You are not asked to solve it--only tell how many solutions it has. You can do that by examining the equations without solving.

okay. thanks for the help!
