Question

My doubt is in executing the programs. I have a Mac laptop. Where should I write the program so that I can explicitly use functions etc on the fly and test it on the shell? I usually use textwrangler( which is like notepad), and here I cannot open up a shell and see the function I wrote on textwrangler actually works. Please help me out. My question is simply, where should I write the code and how do I load it so that I can test my code on the shell?Thanks
