A line segment AB has an endpoint B at (24,16). The midpoint of line segment AB is P(4,-3). What is the y-coordinate of point A

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-22

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Examine the y coordinate of endpoint B. It is 16. Compare with the y coordinate of the midpoint P. It is -3. To get from 16 to -3 one must subtract 19. Subtract 19 more from -3 to get to the other end. -3-19=-22. So the y coordinate of the other endpoint which is A must be -22.

Ok thanks :D
