What is a mole in chemestry and how is it related to the molar mass of an element?

OpenStudy (jfraser):

a mole is an insanely large number of things. It's used to define a "group" of atoms, molecules, or whatever. It's the same kind of term as a dozen. If you have 2 dozen eggs, everyone will know exactly how many eggs you have. 2 dozen elephants will have a different mass, but you'll have exactly the same number of "things" as 2 dozen eggs.
