When we divide numbers, we subtract exponents so: 5.4*10^12/(1.2*10^3) = (5.4)/(1.2) * 10^9 or 4.5*10^9 (I'm assuing you meant (5.4*10^12)/(1.2*10^3), not what you actually typed).
