.Cells use ATP as a source of energy to carry out various functions within the cell. In order for ATP to be useful, a chemical reaction that converts ATP to ADP occurs, releasing energy. Which of the following changes in cellular conditions do you predict would cause a decrease in energy production for the cell? Answer choices: A lack of water molecules in the cell’s mitochondria A large quantity of oxygen in the cell’s mitochondria An abundance of ADP molecules in the cell An increase in temperature of the cell’s surroundings
A, water is the end product of cellular respiration. If there is a lack of water, meaning energy product has slowed down. B, oxygen is the final electron acceptor , so there is no problem to have a large quantity of oxygen C, ADP joins with a phosphate to form ATP, which is energy. Many ADP = more ATP D, increase temperature can increase enzyme activity, that means faster energy production, unless the temperature is too high I will conclude that the answer is A. However, a lack of water does not cause a decrease in energy production, but "is caused“ by a decrease in energy production so i'm not 100% sure on that
D seems better than A, given the chance for enzyme denaturation.
But I'm not sure either :P
but generally temperature increase will increase cellular respiration, unless the temp is too high but the option didnt say a extreme high temperature, that's why i dont think it's D
