Does string theory state that there isnt anything smaller than "strings"?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think its use ful read it

OpenStudy (jamesj):

Hm. Aren't the one who's reading "The Elegant Universe". You tell us. It's right there in the book when string theory is introduced.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh, i havent got to that part yet..

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

no. string are the connections between the atoms. while atoms are the smallest particle. If you say there isnt anything smaller than "strings"? Then this violets the postulates of KMT(Kinetic Molecular Theory)

OpenStudy (jamesj):

@Shayaan: no, that's completely incorrect in String Theory.

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

@JamesJ. Can you just tell me the definition of string theory? And tell me what does KMT says? Except dark matter, anything in this unverse can't violet KMT.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/String_theory

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

I know this link. Even during the course of Quantum physics we have made thesis in regarding this theory. Try to understand what i replied to Inopeki. Thnx

OpenStudy (jamesj):

I'm sorry, but in String Theory, strings are not "the connections between atoms" and it most definitely not the case that "atoms are the smallest particle"!! Even in standard quantum mechanics that last statement is simply no where near true.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sorry, even i know that.

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

sorry i was busy and late reply. Here by connection i meant string are the closed loops.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I was talking about the "atoms are the smallest particles" thing.

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

yes atoms. not strings.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im sorry, have i not understood this? Aren't electrons, muons, gluons, positrons etc. the smallest particles? If quarks count as particles then they are probably the smallest.

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

ohh dear. these are the fundamental particles by which atom is made. but matter is compose of atoms. Atoms are the smallest particles.(Dalton's atomic theory.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well then i have misunderstood this whole thing.. James, is this correct?

OpenStudy (shayaan_mustafa):

you have to make base of your fundamentals in order to study Quantum mechanics.

OpenStudy (jamesj):

@inopeki, when next we're on together we'll talk. In a word: no.
