What is this rounded to the nearest tenth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\sqrt{180}\]

OpenStudy (phi):

did you type sqrt(180)= in the google search window? what did you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

sqrt(180) = 13.4164079

OpenStudy (phi):

do you see the tenths position? It has a 4 in it. Look at the number after it. Is it 5 or bigger?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well the one right after 4 is 1 but then comes 6....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but no 1 is less than 5

OpenStudy (phi):

so, do you remember the rule. what is 13.41 rounded to the nearest tenth?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

13.42? Haha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Idk if you have a chance with me but Phi is great at math :P

OpenStudy (phi):

the rule is : if the number after the 4 is 5 or bigger, make the 4 a 5. if the number after the 4 is less than 5, just keep the 4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so is it 13.41 or 13.44?
