Find the value of x.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Do u know the total interior angle of a pentagon?>

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not really:/

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

Ok, so it's necessary that u know the total interior angle of the pentagon. So the first step is to find it. Use the formula \[{180(n-2)}\]Where n is the number of sides.

OpenStudy (saifoo.khan):

So, u have 5 sided figure. so what will be the value of "n" be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Erm, I have no idea and I don't wanna guess.

OpenStudy (precal):

Seems like they also, don't want to do any math?????

OpenStudy (anonymous):

More like don't understand it.

OpenStudy (precal):

How many sides is your figure? that is your n value, sub it into the formula he gave you and that will tell you how many degrees your figure is made up of

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh thanks!:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So n is 5, correct?

OpenStudy (precal):

yes

OpenStudy (precal):

add up all of your interior angles and set it equal to that number and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So substituted 180(n-2) is 180(5-2) which is 180(3) then 540?

OpenStudy (precal):

yes set it equal to 540

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So what does the formula look like now and what's my next step?

OpenStudy (precal):

all up all the given interior angles here is a hint the little box represents a right angle and that is 90 degrees 90 + 112 + ..........finish=540 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 90x or 112x?

OpenStudy (precal):

really????

OpenStudy (precal):

Name all of the angles (Hint: Look at the picture you posted) Start with 90 degrees

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 67.5 or 68?

OpenStudy (precal):

what equation did you use? I am still waiting for you to tell me all of the angles listed on your picture.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Angles are 148,112, 2x+10 and 2x right? I'm so bad at this.

OpenStudy (precal):

but you forgot 90 degrees that is what the little box means

OpenStudy (precal):

90 + 112 + 148+ 2x+10+2x=540 solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ah yes, 90! Forgot that!

OpenStudy (precal):

ok solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=13.5 ish

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you help me with one mor question?!

OpenStudy (precal):

there is no ish in mathematics 90 + 112 + 148 + 2x+10+ 2x=540 360 + 4x=540 -360 -360 4x=180 divide both sides by 4 x=45

OpenStudy (precal):

well post it, if I can help I will

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Give the name that best describes the parallelogram and find the measures of the numbered angles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ahh, I added the formula wrong.

OpenStudy (precal):

ok angles 1, 3 are the same value angles 2, 4 are the same value by the alternate interior angles triangles equal up to 180 degrees 180-116=64 degrees

OpenStudy (precal):

2 and 3 add up to 64 degrees

OpenStudy (precal):

Triangle is an isoceles and those angles are equal ie 2 and 3 are equal so what do you think the answer is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

64

OpenStudy (precal):

angle 2 and 3 are the same value they both add up to 64

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then 128

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh wait lol, 32

OpenStudy (precal):

I was beginning to worry yes 32

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yay! Thank you so much!:)

OpenStudy (precal):

Anytime :)
