i know this problem was done but im still confused. Find the equation of a line passing through (-2,3) (-1/2,6)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand first you find slope... then what? please help!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you the y = mx + b formula?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah, so when you find the slope, you can put that in for m. Since you already know two points, you can pick one of them, for example -2,3 into the equation. So you get 3 = -2x (what you got for m) + b then you just solve for b

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x is multiplication*

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so y=2x+7 would be the final answer?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you!

It looks like you understand it, but if you want more insight, try http://www.khanacademy.org/video/equation-of-a-line-1?topic=developmental-math-2 and a few of the other videos he does with finding the equation of a line
