anyone know what I type of cord I would need to hoop up my laptop to a TV?? I had previously used my TV as a monitor for my mac mini.. I now would like to watch movies, play music, etc.. on my TV as well.. Thank you in advance for help!! :)
It depends on your laptop and your TV. Normally, laptops have either a VGA d-sub or an HDMI output. If your TV's input matches your laptop's output, you just need the appropriate cable. If not, you'll have to get an adapter.
Since you were running your Mac Mini on your TV, I'm assuming your TV has an HDMI input. The next thing to look for would be whether your laptop has an HDMI output. If it does, you're in luck and just need an HDMI cable.
yh attach together
To my knowledge, HDTV: HMDI SDTV: s-video
@opiesche, yes my TV has an HMDI input, but my laptop just has USB ports.. i think it may also have a HMDI output but it's smaller in size and does not have the twisty things on each side.. thank you for the information though.. it helps :)
Apple has only recently supported TV input via HDMI, you may have to use a variety of adaptors to solve this problem. It depends on the outputs you have, Mini DVI doesn't connect to HDMI. If your laptop is fairly recent and has Thunderbolt you may be in luck as I believe there is a cable for this. Can you supply images of the ports?
What kind of laptop do you have? You may have a video output that would require a converter to connect to an hdmi cable.
yes cryptic57, i will upload when i can... @ecdown, i have a toshiba laptop
