The RBCs in most mammals except camels are not nucleated. The contain haemoglobin, an iron pigment. The function of the RBC is to take in oxygen to be supplied to various body parts for cellular respiration. The RBCs are bi concave in shape.

some additions: chicks (rooster) also have nucleated rbcs another critical function for rbcs is the elimination of co2 (which is the reciprocal function for oxygen carrying)
