Identify the degree of the monomial: x^3

OpenStudy (nenadmatematika):

third degree

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is the monomial always the exponent ?

OpenStudy (nenadmatematika):

no, monomial means polynomial with only one element, and degree of polynomial is always the biggest of exponents...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay then what about a normal number like 7? how would i figure out the monomial?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

it would be 0, right?

OpenStudy (nenadmatematika):

you can write 7 as 7x^0 so it is zero degree :D

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay thank you :D
