the question was Find the exact values of the following expressions, it they are defined. \[\tan^{-1} (-\sqrt{3})\] i dont know how many answers i am supposed to have

The range of arctan(x) is given by the interval (-pi/2 , pi/2). The single answer is ( - pi / 3) .

5pi/3 is not in the range of the arctan.

thank you! but sorry I have to ask how did you know the range? I thought the answer could be determined in all 4 quadrants.
