systems of equations : 4x+5y=48 y=3x+2 i keep getting fractions for my answer. i dont get it!!?!?!?!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

use substitution...plug in 3x+2 for the y in the first equation. Whenever you plug in something like that always put parenthesis around it. I'm guessing that you are forgetting to distribute the 5 with the 2. If you do you'll get 4x + 15x+10 =48 which gives you x=2 after a little more algebra. plug that into the second equation to get y with no fractions

4x + 5(3x+2) = 48 is what it looks like before you distribute

i did forget to distribute.
