Similar to area of a two dimensional object, like a rectangle which is just length times width (A=l*w), volume is simply length times width times height. V=l*w*h To convert from feet to inches, multiply each number by 12 since each foot has 12 inches. As long as you remember 1 foot = 12 inches you know that you need to multiply feet by 12 since there are more inches in a foot than there are feet in an inch, which if you think about it, doesn't make much sense, just like you wouldn't divide one foot by 12 to find how many inches something is!
