I would say that depends on what your instructor will let you get away with. Mine is a huge stickler for seeing the unit follow throughout the calculation and when it's not there they knock off a few points with the famous red pen. In a school setting you are trying to convince someone that your work is right so the calculation is more for their benifit than yours. Also for school it benifits you to do it the way they would like because it reflects in the grade you recieve at the end of the course.
