it doesn't matter which you do first....the rule of signs shows that there are either 2 positive or 0 positive roots.

since the leading exponent is 3 then thee are 3 roots.

the rational root theorem will use the last term and the leading term...

2 which has factors of 2 and 1 and 5 which has factors of 5 and 1 therefore possible rational root would be +-2/5, +-2/1, +-1/5,+-1/1...
