Jeff started a business to insulate basements and crawl spaces. He uses expanding foam. A litre container will cover 8 m² to a depth of 5 cm. A homeowner has a basement 32' x 42' x 8' in the main section and a cold storage area in the shape of a semi-circle with diameter of 3 m. The walls and ceilings are to be insulated. How large is the surface area to be covered in square footage? Convert the square footage to square meters. How many litres of foam are required?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The basement has 4 walls. Two of them are 32 by 8 and two of them are 42 by 8. The ceiling is 32 by 42. Find the area of those five rectangles.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The find the area of the semicircle pi(3/2)^2 divided by 2

Do I then take those answers and convert it?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Notice that the semicircular area will be in square meters. You will have to convert it to square feet.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The rectangular area will already be in square feet.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Then when you have the total number of square feet, convert it all to square meters.

Oh okay, I think I understand. Thanks!
