One hundred gold beads, each 20 mm across, are placed side by side in a single layer in the smallest possible square box that is 20 mm tall. What is the volume of the box in cubic centimeters? please explain.

20mm * 100 beads = 2000mm but you need centimeters... since there are 10 millimeters in 1 centimeter, divide by 10 2000mm = 200cm
you have one dimension that is 200cm long, 20mm high and 20mm wide 20 divided by 10 again is 2
so... 2*2*200 is 800cm^3
