A druggist wants to reduce a 20-ounce quantity of a 7% solution of iodine to a 4% solution by adding pure alcohol. How much alcohol must he add to accomplish this?

iodine_before = iodine_after to find the amount of iodine, multiply volume by concentration x is amount of alcohol added --> 20(.07) = (20+x)(.04) 1.4 = .8 +.04x .6 = .04x 15 = x
