The coefficient of restitution for an object bouncing off of a stationary object is defined as\[C_R =e = {v \over u}\] where \(v\) is the velocity after impact and \(u\) is the velocity before impact. From the equations of projectile motion, we can express this as\[C_R = e = \sqrt{ h \over H}\]where \(h\) is the bounce height and \(H\) is the drop height.
