z = quarters

x+ y + z = 44
x = y
1(cent)x + 10(cent) y + 25 (cent) z = 476 cents

now...the magic begins...

x+ y + z = 44
x - y =0
x + 10y + 25z = 476

z = 44-2y

-9y -24z = -432
3y + 8z = 144
3y + 8(44-2y) = 144
3y + 352 - 16y = 144
-13y = -208
y = 16
x = 16
z = 12

..so 16 pennies, 16 dimes, and 12 quarters
