I don't get this joke :( "C combines the efficiency of assembly language with the portability of assembly language."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

"C combines the power of assembly language with the readability and maintainability of assembly language."

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Most of the time assembly isn't very portable nor very maintainable.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep that is true...c language could be runned or rather executed on any platform almost and also has the power of assembly language because it is much faster without much compilation process like java or c++.....it is said to be the pure compiler .

OpenStudy (rsmith6559):

C was developed to write Unix so Unix could run on the different computers of the day. Basically, a portable assembly language. Terseness was (is?) a virtue. BTW, we're talking 1969.

Shooting yourself in the foot in various programming languages: C: You shoot yourself in the foot. C++: You accidentally create four instances of yourself and shoot them all in the foot. Providing medical assistance is impossible, since you can't tell which ones are actually copies and which are just pointing at others saying 'That's me, over there' Java: After you import java.awt.right.foot.* and java.awt.right.hand.gun.* and implementing two dozen methods for the needed classes, you've forgotten what it was you were going to do. Assembly: After inventing the foot, the gun, the bullet and the hand in 2000 lines of assembly code each, you try to shoot yourself in the foot and notice that you still need to implement gunpowder. After doing that you pull the trigger with a single instruction, but the gun beeps and crashes. Forth: Foot in yourself shoot. Python: You try to shoot yourself in the foot, but only end up hitting the white space between your toes. I forgot the other ones :P
